On completion of the course students should be capable of:

• Reading an academic text in their specific field of study with little or no difficulty in comprehension
• Writing an expository English essay devoid of major errors in grammar and syntax which prohibit comprehension by a reader
• Recognizing general academic style in writing as well as applying appropriate style to a written academic text
• Understanding an academic presentation and participating in a follow-up question session
• Familiarizing themselves with the appropriate language and stance for an oral presentation
