Abstract

Nature-based solutions (NBS) are a modern approach of problem-solving. In its core, these concepts are based on and inspired by nature; hence, the goal is to create solutions to our environmental problems that not only improve the environmental status but also provide ecosystem services and a better well-being for humans and the ecosystems. In the field of water and wastewater, NBS are a set of tools that provide sustainable, efficient and cost-effective remediation and management. This lecture will present a case study where a NBS system was developed for the remediation of groundwater contaminated with fuel hydrocarbons.
